Today is Flag Day!

On this day in 1916, President Wilson issued a presidential proclamation that established June 14 as national Flag Day. Americans are encouraged to display Old Glory on this special day.

The design of the United States flag was adopted over two-hundred years ago, representing the thirteen original colonies and fifty states. Read more about our flag in books offered through Clark College Libraries.

         

As spring term comes to a close summertime adventures approach. Strawberries ripening on the vine has traditionally marked the new season. Strawberries are now available, fresh for the picking in local fields.

Celebrate Flag Day with a delicious dish of fresh strawberries or a recipe found in a cookbook available through Clark College Libraries. Go beyond the traditional salsa recipe and experiment with a strawberry salsa recipe for an appetizer or snack, stirred up by Judy Barret. Try baking a macron, inspired by Pierre Hermé, flavored with the combination of wasabi cream and strawberry. Fix an old time favorite recipe found in Great Old-Fashioned American Desserts, Rhubarb-Strawberry Pie.
