Native Voices in Literature and History
The new traveling exhibit, Native Voices: Native People’s Concepts of Health and Illness, located at Cannell library, provides a bevy of important information about the health, history, and culture of Native Americans and Native Hawaiians. In conjunction with the exhibition, Clark Libraries and Clark County have teamed together to provide meaningful events that will enrich the overall experience and education of student, faculty and public visitors.
In an effort to further the mission of Native Voices, the iCommons at CTC has created a book display that contains some materials from our collection that coincide with the exhibit.
The books used in this display are ready for checkout and represent only a small fraction of the resources available in the Clark Libraries collection. The included materials encompass several genres, such as, fiction, nonfiction, poetry and biography. Most, if not all, of the authors are Native Americans and Native Hawaiians or translators for Native elders.
Also included are written historical facts about Native American and Native Hawaiian history, taken from the Native Voices informational website. Take a moment to read about these events in history and celebrate in the voices of Native individuals by checking out our books!
