El Dia del Nino/El Dia del Libro

Beginning this Friday, May 6th from 5 pm- 8 pm, the Celebracion de Mi Gente: El Dia del Nino/El Dia del Libro (“Celebration of My People: Day of the Child/Day of the Book”), will be happening at Clark College!

This annual festival coincides with the Mexican holiday of Dia del Nino and the American Library Association’s (ALA) Dia del Libro. The children’s focused holiday of Dia del Nino first began in Mexico in 1925 as a means to help the ailing and struggling children affected by World War I. Also known as Children’s Day, the holiday was universally adopted by many countries around 1954. For Mexican children, schools often suspend learning activities in favor of games and many families often spend the day together.

The family-friendly festivities planned include bilingual storytelling, face-painting, games, crafts, dancing, and, of course, food! Come celebrate Latino culture, the well-being of children, and the importance of literacy.
