Book-Picks-R-Us
Beginning May and going until the middle of June, we will be posting book recommendations by fellow CTC students, faculty, and staff. While reading is generally a large requirement for many classes, it’s also an enjoyable pastime and can be a great way to unwind, destress, or escape. With the end of Spring Quarter and the beginning of summer fast approaching, finding a great book may be the last thing on your mind.
Well, how about we just give you a list to pick from?
Introducing…..CTC Book Picks!!
This week’s book picks are from English Professor, Ray Korpi, who recommends Chasing Monarchs and Mariposa Road by Robert Michael Pyle.
“During my research of birding big year accounts in the past year, I stumbled upon the nature writing of Robert Michael Pyle. I own one of Pyle’s field guides—The Butterflies of Cascadia—and know of his scientific writing, but his two travelogues, Chasing Monarchs and Mariposa Road, turned me on to a different aspect of his writing. Too often, the birder seeking a large count gets too focused on the mission. Pyle never does, and his observations of humanity, nature, and the changes that the world are experiencing really make one think about how we encounter the world. In many ways, his work hearkens back to Muir, Burroughs, and other key natural historians while keeping a foot firmly planted in the modern world.”
