When I was in undergrad, I was always amazed at how people didn’t cite properly. It’s not that difficult, just follow the format!
As a lawyer, I need to cite properly in every document I draft, or else a judge will yell at me or a pleading will be rejected by the Court. Citations are very important because they provide a uniform way of conveying data.
I’m glad to see your college take a proactive approach to citations. I think it’s something that should be stressed no matter what profession a student decides to enter.
